Review:
Merry Berry is a total delight. I opened their lime green door, had that first look inside, and couldn’t help but smile. The place is all colour and whimsy. Fresh and welcoming.
I sat myself at the blue cafe table and ordered, first, a hot chocolate – which was rich and creamy and perfect for watching the snow fall outside. I followed that up with an amazing toasted sandwich of goat cheese, fig chutney and caramelized onions. Delicious! Owners Cyril and Nimmi have obviously put a lot of artistry and heart into thie place. They’ll be seeing a lot more of me!

Reading the review and watching the comments, I had to go pay a visit to the awesomeness that was named Merry Berry. Cyril was very kind and prompt in their service. I went there with two friends and spent close to two hours chatting it up. The soup and sandwiches were amaaazing! The price very fair. My friend Robin dubbed the place to go to for some “real” soup.
I took some pictures to share with you.

It’s only been opened for about two weeks and is already making a lot of waves. Please make sure you visit them to experience it for yourself.

This morning, I was introduced to the pleasure that is Merry Berry. As such, I have found my new client meeting place and it is a LOT farther than my home office in the east end. And soooooo worth the distance!
The decor is charming beyond belief, the service is joyous and the food is scrumptious.
Merry Berry is absolutely charming! The interior is whimsical and happy…the food, super tasty and the service, perfection! I will go again, and bring clients and friends. A great find!
I was just at this delightful place. We were four, and they gave us tasters – I got to sample the pear soup, the beef bourguignon, the chowder, two different sandwiches, two desserts, and each and every single thing was the work of someone who understood how ingredients work with each other. Brilliant. (they were not sample sized samples mind you, we were stuffed to the gills at the end of this meal, with quantity and delight). And it’s not crazy expensive or anything- just beautiful. And the owners and the beautiful cook – I wish I lived in Toronto, but I don’t. I’ll be back here soon as I can.
I have been to Merry Berry’s a few times now.
During this winter season I find their *stew of the day* to be the perfect belly warmer. A side of root vegetables makes a delicious accompaniment, though they are a little over cooked.
My 7 yr old son loved his “Honey I Ate the Salmon” salad, and we shared a mug of cocao pepper (hot chocolate with freshly juiced chili peppers) for dessert.
The fabulous decor, friendly service & yummy healthy edibles make this new Cabbagetown café a warm oasis on a snowy day.
I used to work on Parliament street and literally saw this little gem come to life in a restored Victorian. I went there just last week and ordered the salmon salad with honey dressing. It had a really fun name too which I sadly forgot.
I absolutely loved the decor as my friend predicted when she asked me to meet her there….the quirky touches makes it feel like someone’s home that you accidentally walked into.
But the highlight has to be their washrooms, if you have not been there….please do on your visit. I won’t tell you how it looks, but it is one of the most cute and unusual washrooms I have seen in my life. The little details are what makes it so special.
Have fun people and drop by my blog to tell me how your experience has been. 🙂
Look forward to hearing from you

Merryberry has a wonderful charm and elegance. Everything from the delightful decor and bright colours to the dishes, cutlery and french glassware is welcoming and heartwarming.
In terms of food, the salads are amazing. I absolutely loved “Who Needs Meat Anyway”. The soup was also terrific! Lentil soup would be a good addition to the menu.
The two owners are very friendly and accommodating. I chatted with both of them while I was there.
Negative: on my second visit to Merryberry were two waitresses there who did not seem to know what they were doing. I don’t know if they are hired help or related to the owners but they seemed like they did not want to be there. One of them did not know about the food ingredients and could not recommend anything on the menu or any beverages. It left a bad taste in my mouth after great interaction with the two owners on my previous visits.
