Getting Down to Business
The Ben Wicks has been an integral part of the Cabbagetown Community for 29-years, and we are all very fortunate to have had such an amazing place for friends to gather. Sadly, Robert McEnirney, proud owner of Ben Wicks and Cabbagetown BIA member, has sold the beloved pub, but we are all thankful for his contributions to the neighbourhood these last few decades.
In the same manner as last week, we say goodbye to one while welcoming another. Get ready for The Scullery, opening soon at 200 Carlton Street. Undoubtedly, this bake shop will be a great new addition to our community.
In other Cabbagetown business news, Number 9 Audio Group has begun their “Five for 75” summer special, in which artists who book more than 5-hours in the studio will pay a discounted rate of only $75 an hour. Another store in the summer mood, The Labour of Love will be hosting a workshop on July 28th. Tickets are $20 and include all necessary supplies.
Lastly, a desirable vintage item has found its way on to one of Eclectisaurus‘ shelves: an Italian Atomic Espresso and Cappuccino Maker, designed by Giordano Robbiati during the 40s. For the coffee aficionado, this one’s for you. Stop in for more details at 249 Gerrard East.
Community Updates and Events
A quick reminder that next Thursday, July 18th, Riverdale Farm will host their Midsummer Mixer from 5:30 to 9:30pm. Please help Riverdale achieve their goal of raising $25,000, as this money will be poured back into the farm for the benefit of all visitors. Speaking of $25,000, the Kraft Celebration Tour will be giving ten monetary-prizes to deserving community projects across Canada, and it just so happens St. Jamestown’s Community Centre has been nominated. Voting begins July 18th, so please show your support in their tennis court restoration plans.
On July 20th, another neighbourhood walk will commence at 1:30pm by Parliament and Winchester. The Cabbagetown Preservation Association will guide residents along South Don Vale, stopping to admire iconic and historic sites such as the old Toronto General Hospital and the multiple mansions on Carlton. If taking-in some fresh air is something that interests you, perhaps you will be pleased to hear that the July 21st service at St. Peter’s will be held outside on the Rectory Lawn. Following the service, there will be a BBQ accompanied by live entertainment. Tickets are only $1.
