O2 Masionette on George, also known as Oxygen, is a new condo development that is located in South Cabbagetown at the corner of George and Shutter. This 14 story building will host 48 unit which will have square footage between 540 square feet to 2,050 square feet and prices starting from $399,900.
The two-story floor plans will be a refreshing relief for condo buyers that are tired of the same old box style condos. The floor to ceiling windows and two-floor plans will give ample light and feel open and airy.
I’m a big supporter of History in Toronto and want to see more properties being preserved. This building is on the lot where Walnut Hall Apartments once stood which was a four-story Georgian Revival style row houses. The property was owned before by Royal Canadian Mounted Police that had left the building unheated and empty for over 20 years and sold it in 1996. The property had a heritage designation but since it hadn’t been used in a long time, it was demolished by the city of Toronto in 2007 due to safety reasons.
While I mourn the loss of the great homes, I am optimistic about the new project and will likely see this, otherwise empty area, being revitalized with more people. Developers Stal Inc. and Identity Developments hired Page + Steele / IBI Group Architects to create a simple modern design that combines the warmth of a brick-faced podium with a sleek skyline presence.
Empire Communities, developers of Fly Condos, Beyond The Sea, The Modern Condo, and others, are handling sales and marketing here, and will be project managers throughout construction. We expect much more information from them on the building in coming weeks. In the meantime, registrations are being taken for those whose interest is piqued.
