When the Cabbagetown South Residents’ Association met with Division 51 officers on March 6th, they voiced a variety of community concerns regarding local crime and discussed how residents can help put an end to it. After the meeting finished, members of the association returned to the community with the following tips to stop crime in Cabbagetown:
Stop Crime in Cabbagetown through Observation
In order to prevent crime, the Toronto police need more information. It is recommended that residents keep a daily log to document instances of recurring criminal activity in their neighbourhood. In doing so, officers will have a better understanding of when these illegal activities occur. Repeat offences may include things like prostitution, drug use, or public drinking. If you stumble across evidence of such activity, such as discarded drug paraphernalia, condoms, or shattered alcohol bottles, take a quick picture and email the department with the time and location of discovery. You may also email logs and photographs to info@cabbagetownsouth.ca and the information will be forwarded accordingly. In regards to taking pictures, please do so discretely. Under no circumstance should you place yourself in danger by becoming a private investigator or public vigilante.
Making the Effort
The Cabbagetown South Residents’ Association asks for the community’s active and immediate assistance over the next three weeks, between April 6th and 28th. Residents are encouraged to document and photograph suspicious or disruptive behaviour so that the police may stay well-informed of the situation. In this “all-out effort” the association hopes to stop crime in Cabbagetown altogether. Help collect the necessary information to do so and spread the word in your community. Let’s get active in ridding south Cabbagetown of malignant activity once and for all.
