Another month has nearly passed us by — but not without a grand goodbye. For the end of May and beginning of June, numerous businesses community groups have some excellent Cabbagetown sales, events, and promotions planned. Let’s take a look at some of the things to get excited about:
Riverdale’s Street Fest and Art Walk
Eats and Beats in Riverdale
From 1pm to 6pm on Saturday, June 1st, get ready for the annual Riverside street festival. There is sure to be fun for the whole family, including food sampling from local eateries and sundry performances. Participants will receive a “Riverside Passport” for businesses to stamp, as a way to advertise up-coming Cabbagetown sales in June.
The event will have 12 main destinations, including a display for cooking, dancing, instrument making, crafting, tattooing, and much more. This is not an event that you’ll want to miss.
Art Walk
On June 1st and 2nd, the streets of Riverdale will be abundant with fine art exhibitions, promoting emerging artists in an array of public places. Retailers, art studios, and Jimmy Simpson Park will all be hotspots for this event.
Sundara Yoga Studio
Between May 25 and June 15, visit Sundara Yoga Studio (492 Parliament) from 3-4:30pm on Saturdays for an afternoon of Ashtanga yoga. The course is four weeks long, during which students will learn Sun Salutations, proper postures, breathing technique, as well as the context and philosophy of the yoga form itself. Visit their website for more information on how to enrol.
Riverdale Farm
As always, Riverdale Farm has a few special events coming up at the end of the Month, some of which will carry-on through the summer months. Riverdale Farm is located 201 Winchester Street and is open all year round, meaning there will always been events for the community to enjoy. Take a look at the flyers below for more information on the Farmer’s Market, how to become a gardening volunteer, and the Sheep Celebration on May 25th.
Home Publishing
Home Publishing has launched a new project, titled “Essential Apps”. Since apps are a modern epidemic, Home Publishing has decided to provide individuals with a weekly summary of what’s new and hot. Users will be happy to hear that this app will be broken into categories, ensuring effortless navigation.
Heritage Toronto Awards
Although it may feel a long way off, we need to start thinking about nominations. The Heritage Toronto Awards highlight key societal contributors in terms of preserving and promoting Toronto’s historical landmarks and structures. This year, there are five categories for nominations: (1) William Greer Architectural Conservation and Craftsmanship; (2) Book; (3) Short Publication; (4) Media; and (5) Community Heritage.
The ceremony will be held October 15th at the Royal Conservatory of Music’s Koerner Hall. Please visit www.heritagetoronto.org for rules, regulations, and eligibility. If you’d prefer, email awards@heritagetoronto.org or call (416)338-2175 to speak with someone directly.
